Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Youth and Sports Services, Department of Press, Public Relations and Media, and Department of Social Services jointly organised a Children’s Sports Festival at Ahmed Arif Park. The event aimed to increase children’s access to sporting activities, make public spaces more functional for children and promote a culture of sport in neighbourhoods.

At the festival, children enjoyed a range of sporting activities, educational games and other activities.

Children tried out different sports

The festival gave children the opportunity to try different sports, including football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, darts, a climbing wall, table football and chess. Taking part in team games and individual activities, the children enjoyed trying out different sports and spending time together.

Educational and fun activities

Alongside the sporting activities, the festival also featured educational and entertaining activities designed to appeal to children’s different interests, including mind and intelligence games, robotic coding, face painting and a mushroom house.

Through play, the children gained new experiences and had the opportunity to interact with their peers and spend time together. The activity areas were filled with lively scenes, with solidarity and sharing at the heart of the event.

Festivals to continue in different neighbourhoods

The festival, organised to support children’s social development, promote a culture of sport and create safe spaces for social life, came to an end following strong participation.

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality will continue organising Children’s Sports Festivals in different neighbourhoods across the city to increase children’s access to cultural, artistic, sporting and social activities.
