Children Learn Traditional Olive Preparation Methods
Children who took part in an olive-cracking activity organised by Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality gained first-hand insight into traditional food production. By taking part in preparing natural products, they experienced the importance of working together, sharing and connecting with nature.
The activity was held at Zarokistan Bağcılar and the 450 Evler Nursery and Day Care Centres, both run by the Municipality’s Child Services Unit under the Department of Social Services. It aimed to familiarise children with traditional food production and give them practical experience of how natural products used in everyday life are prepared.
Learning How Olives Are Prepared
During the activity, which introduced traditional methods, children learnt about the preparation olives undergo before reaching the table. By actively taking part in the process, they were encouraged to learn through hands-on experience.
The activity also helped children become more familiar with the natural products they encounter in everyday life and encouraged their interest in how food is produced.
The Joy of Producing and Sharing
As they explored traditional food production through the olive-cracking activity, children also learnt the importance of working together and sharing. Spending time together gave them the opportunity to gain new experiences and strengthen their connection with nature.
The activity aimed to reinforce values such as sharing and solidarity among the children.
