Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak met with municipal enforcement officers working for the municipality to mark the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the Municipal Enforcement Unit.
The event was attended by Co-Mayor Bucak, DBB Deputy Chief Executives Muhabbet Erdoğmuş and Özlem Tekin, DBB Assembly Co-Spokespersons Demet Ceylan and Ayhan Karatekin, heads of relevant departments and council members.
Speaking at the event, Co-Mayor Bucak congratulated municipal enforcement officers on Municipal Enforcement Officers’ Week and expressed hope that they would continue to work under improving conditions and with enhanced capacity in the years ahead. She emphasised the importance of working with understanding and effective communication, avoiding misunderstandings, and adopting an approach based on dialogue, negotiation and persuasion.
‘We Adopt a Worker- and Employee-Centred Approach’
Referring to the challenges of municipal enforcement work, Co-Mayor Bucak said that no one would want to make the field more difficult, adding that they aimed to meet universal standards through training, capacity-building programmes, activities and innovation.
Emphasising that every society and city has its own specific challenges, Co-Mayor Bucak noted that these objectives could be achieved through the dedicated work of employees and the sharing of accurately identified problems and needs through the appropriate channels.
Stating that they sought to build a structure that promotes workplace peace, well-being and dialogue within the organisation, Co-Mayor Bucak said they did not accept the conventional notion that “management gives orders and units carry them out”. Instead, she said they advocated a worker- and employee-centred approach that takes into account observations from the field.
Co-Mayor Bucak added that the same commitment, sensitivity and peaceful and equal approach should be maintained towards the public, and once again congratulated municipal enforcement officers on Municipal Enforcement Officers’ Week.
