As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Specialist Dr Derya Deniz Altıntaş delivered a presentation on the importance of early detection. She stressed the need to pay attention to changes in breast tissue, seek medical attention without delay if suspicious symptoms occur, and assess individual risk factors.

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Women’s Policies organised a presentation and discussion event entitled The Importance of Early Detection of Breast Cancer at the Ali Emiri Conference Hall, featuring Specialist Dr Derya Deniz Altıntaş. Held as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event aimed to highlight the importance of early detection and promote the dissemination of accurate information on the subject.

The programme, which aimed to raise public awareness of breast cancer, addressed the importance of early detection, the need for regular health checks, and the role of screening methods in identifying the disease at an early stage. In her presentation, Dr Altıntaş shared key information about breast cancer and highlighted the importance of early detection for treatment and disease management.

Individual risk factors should be assessed

The programme emphasised how detecting breast cancer at an early stage can improve treatment options and outcomes. The importance of awareness, regular check-ups and following healthcare professionals’ advice in protecting breast health was also discussed. Participants were reminded to pay attention to changes in breast tissue, seek medical attention without delay if suspicious symptoms occur, and assess their individual risk factors.

Mammography and cancer screening

Common misconceptions about mammography and breast cancer screening were also among the key topics discussed. The event addressed widespread gaps in public knowledge and misconceptions about mammography, explaining its role in detecting breast cancer at an early stage. Questions about screening procedures were discussed, with particular emphasis on the importance of age, family history, personal medical history and individual risk factors in determining the appropriate screening approach. The programme underlined the need to make decisions about breast health on the basis of scientific evidence and healthcare professionals’ advice.

During the question-and-answer session at the end of the event, participants had the opportunity to ask questions about early detection of breast cancer, mammography, screening intervals, regular health checks and other issues related to the disease.
