Co-Mayor Bucak Criticises Trustee Policy at the German Association of Cities General Assembly

Attending the 43rd Ordinary General Assembly of the German Association of Cities, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak drew attention to the trustee policies implemented in Türkiye, criticising the dismissal and imprisonment of mayors.

The 43rd Ordinary General Assembly of the German Association of Cities was held on 13–15 May, hosted by the Municipality of Hannover, the capital of Lower Saxony, Germany. The Assembly was attended by nearly 1,500 delegates, including Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak and Bağlar Municipality Co-Mayor Siraç Çelik.

During the open sessions and meetings, issues such as the financial situation of cities, infrastructure investments and cooperation were discussed, and general assessments were made.

Co-Mayor Bucak: Sister city initiatives foster cultural rapprochement

Speaking at the General Assembly, Co-Mayor Bucak highlighted the trustee policies implemented in Türkiye, criticising the imprisonment and removal of mayors from office. She also drew attention to the diplomatic relations and cooperation established by Diyarbakır with other cities, stressing that sister city initiatives contribute to the development of democracy and foster cultural rapprochement. Co-Mayor Bucak further expressed readiness for cooperation in youth and women’s initiatives.
