Co-Mayor Bucak Attends CEMR Leaders’ Summit in Oslo

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak attended the CEMR Leaders’ Summit and Political Committee Meeting held in Oslo.

Co-Mayor Bucak participated in the two-day Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) Leaders’ Summit and Political Committee Meeting in Norway’s capital Oslo, as part of the national delegation chaired by Zeydan Karalar, Vice President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB), and consisting of National Delegation Members and TBB executives.

On the first day of the summit, the session entitled “The Role of CEMR in a Changing Geopolitical Context” addressed CEMR’s legal and financial issues as well as the challenges faced by local and regional governments in an increasingly unstable geopolitical environment in recent years. The session also provided an exchange of views among participants on safeguarding democratic values, strengthening local governments and the importance of international cooperation.

The meeting further featured assessments and recommendations by local leaders on how to resist democratic backsliding, how to strengthen democratic institutions, and how to guarantee citizens’ rights.
