Gender Equality Workshop Held

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality organised a “Gender Equality Workshop” for women.

The Department of Women and Family Services held the workshop for participants of its free “Basic Computer and 3D Animation Training” programme.

In the training delivered by instructor Rojda Kızgın, it was emphasised that gender inequality affects not only women’s choice of profession but also their economic independence and quality of life. Kızgın pointed out that due to gender inequality, women are often denied access to educational opportunities and subjected to discrimination in recruitment processes. She also noted that women, in addition to paid employment, bear the majority of invisible work such as household chores and childcare, which leads to their early withdrawal from the workforce.

Participants also shared examples of the discrimination they faced during job applications, stressing the need to expand support programmes specifically for women and to ensure that men also take on caregiving responsibilities.
