‘General Conference of Mayors for Peace’ Begins

The “General Conference of Mayors for Peace” in which Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak is participating has begun.

The first meeting of the Mayors for Peace General Conference, held in Nagasaki, Japan, took place under the title “80th Anniversary of the Atomic Bombings.”

Following the meeting, Co-Mayor Bucak presented ceramic artworks depicting the Diyarbakır City Walls to the mayors of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

Conference to continue with panels

The conference, held under the theme “Towards a Nuclear-Free World: The Peaceful Future We Imagine as Global Citizens,” will today feature a panel entitled “Realising a Nuclear-Free World.” In the final part of the panel, issues such as environmental challenges, public health and pandemics, human rights, and refugees will be addressed.

The third day of the conference will begin with the Nagasaki Peace Ceremony, followed by the “11th General Conference of Mayors for Peace Japan.”

Co-Mayor Bucak was accompanied at the programme by Council Member Umut Aytaş.
