Diyarbakır City Council to convene with agenda on Hevsel Gardens and the Ten-Eyed Bridge

Diyarbakır City Council will hold its 32nd Ordinary General Assembly on 10 January 2026, with a focus on unplanned construction around the Hevsel Gardens and the historic Ten-Eyed Bridge, as well as encroachments on shared public spaces across the city.

The 32nd Ordinary General Assembly will meet on 10 January 2026 to address the recent increase in unauthorised construction and occupations of public areas. Unplanned developments concentrated in and around the Hevsel Gardens and the Ten-Eyed Bridge, and the damage they are causing to the city’s urban fabric, will be among the priority items on the agenda.

In line with a decision taken at the City Council Executive Board meeting held on 3 December, the General Assembly will consider not only these two areas but also encroachments across all shared public spaces in the city, including squares, main roads, streets and pavements.

‘A critical meeting for Diyarbakır’s shared future’

In a statement, Diyarbakır City Council underlined that the 32nd Ordinary General Assembly will provide an important platform for resolving these issues, which directly affect urban life. The statement said:

“We invite our residents and all stakeholders to take part in the process to prevent uncontrolled construction that threatens our city’s historical, cultural and natural heritage, as well as encroachments on public spaces. The General Assembly to be held on 10 January 2026 will be a critical meeting in standing up for Diyarbakır’s shared future.”

Decisions to be shared with the public

Decisions taken at the General Assembly are expected to be shared with relevant institutions and organisations and presented to the public.
