Disability rights awareness campaign held

As part of 3 December, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality raised awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities by setting up information stands at three locations across the city.

The Metropolitan Municipality continues its work to ensure that persons with disabilities can participate equally and actively in all areas of social life. Under the slogan “A new life is possible for persons with disabilities”, the Department of Services for Persons with Disabilities and Older People set up stands on Gazi Street in Sur district, Yaşar Kemal (Ekinciler) Street in Yenişehir district, and outside Ceylan Karavil Park Shopping Centre in Kayapınar district, distributing informative leaflets on disability rights.

Municipal services explained

Teams, including Head of the Department İsmail Değirmenci, engaged directly with residents on public transport, at bus stops and in workplaces. Residents were provided with detailed information about the services Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality offers for persons with disabilities and older people.

Municipal teams aimed to build awareness by outlining a broad range of services and initiatives, including education, employment, social services, psychosocial support, accessibility work, home care services and economic support programmes. The campaign highlighted ongoing services in many areas, from access to public spaces to participation in cultural and social life.

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality’s disability rights awareness activities will continue throughout the year.
