Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality provided traffic and environmental awareness training to 486 pupils from eight schools in one week.
Between 19 and 25 November, a comprehensive programme was delivered at the Children’s Traffic Education Park, run under the Department of Municipal Police (Zabıta). As part of a programme prepared by the Directorate of National Education, pupils visited the training park and took part in both classroom-based and practical sessions under the guidance of specialist teams. The sessions covered traffic rules, safe behaviour for pedestrians, basic environmental awareness, and key road-safety principles to follow in daily life.
Practical training
Alongside theoretical instruction in a classroom setting, children completed hands-on activities using the park’s miniature pedestrian crossings, traffic lights, designated safe crossing points and footbridge models. This enabled pupils to learn traffic signs and practise how to move safely as pedestrians.
All pupils who successfully completed the programme were treated to fruit juice and cake by the municipality, and were given hats and whistles as gifts.
The Department of Municipal Police will continue the training programme in line with schools’ scheduling, aiming to help children develop a culture of road safety from an early age.
