Parents’ education seminar held

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality held a seminar for parents titled “The Family’s Role and Attitudes in Success”, aiming to highlight the family’s decisive role in a child’s academic achievement and to support the creation of a positive learning environment at home.

The seminar, organised by the Department of Social Services at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre, was attended by Head of the Department Ömer Saman, teachers and many parents. The event was coordinated by the Youth Education Branch Directorate, with the presentation delivered by guidance counsellor Ece Asmin Güler. In her talk, Güler covered topics including “the family’s role in education, study habits at home, motivation and positive attitudes, discipline and responsibility, and cooperation with guidance services”.

‘We will add value to the city in education’

Speaking at the seminar, Ömer Saman said that students are at the centre of their work. Stressing that education is a long-term process, he said: “Success in education is possible in a democratic family, where the family becomes part of the learning process. This is our first meeting with you today, but it will not be limited to this. Throughout the process, we will provide regular updates—together with your active participation—focused on our students’ exams and achievements. We believe that by the end of the year we will be able to demonstrate, together, that we have created added value for education in this city. Under the umbrella of Akademi Sur, we will not only support exam preparation, but also prioritise our students’ personal development through cultural and artistic activities. We will also continue to stand by you and the students through ongoing guidance work.”

“66 million TL in education support for 6,630 students”

Saying that the municipality’s support for education is delivering tangible results, Saman concluded: “Our hope is that, after a successful examination period and with strong guidance support, our students will secure places at good universities—and that we will continue our support once they begin university. We are making that commitment, because this is what we already do in practice. Last week, we transferred a total of 66 million Turkish lira to the households of 6,630 students from this city who have gained admission to university—10,000 lira as the first instalment. We will transfer the second instalment to our students’ accounts in February. We will help these students get into university, and we will stand by them afterwards as well. All we ask is that you, as families, believe in us and trust us. Work in cooperation with our teachers, value and protect your children, and share every issue with us.”

The seminar concluded following a session in which parents shared their requests, suggestions and views.
