Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak addressed the UN Mayors Forum in Geneva, stating that they have put gender equality into practice and that the co-mayorship system has transformed local government.
The fifth meeting of the United Nations Mayors Forum has opened at the Palais des Nations in Geneva and will run until 7 October. The agenda includes themes such as “Good Health and Well-being”, “Gender Equality”, “Decent Work and Economic Growth”, “Climate Finance Mechanisms”, and “Voluntary Local Reviews and Housing Issues”. The forum, which underscores the critical role of cities and local actors in shaping a sustainable future, is being attended by Co-Mayor Serra Bucak alongside mayors from across the world.

Presenting on gender equality at the forum, Co-Mayor Serra Bucak greeted the participants. Emphasising that Diyarbakır is not merely a city but the heart of Mesopotamia, Co-Mayor Bucak noted that the city has always been governed by the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), which values gender equality and democracy. She stated that they have put gender equality into practice and that the co-mayorship system has transformed local government.
