Play and sports areas in parks are being renewed

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality has launched a comprehensive renewal programme for children’s play and sports areas (fitness equipment, and the surfaces of running and walking tracks) across parks city-wide.

The Parks and Gardens Department has begun works in the districts of Sur, Kayapınar, Yenişehir and Bağlar to modernise, make safe and improve accessibility for worn children’s play equipment, outdoor fitness equipment, safety surfacing in play areas, and the surfaces of sports areas.

As part of the renewal works, teams are refurbishing first and foremost the children’s play groups and their surfacing, the fitness equipment that enables citizens to exercise, and the running and walking track surfaces.

In green areas, teams are removing worn and damaged equipment used by citizens of all ages and installing new replacements in their stead.

Children are gaining safer play areas

Thanks to the renewal works, children are gaining safer places to play, while adults are finding better opportunities to exercise in a healthy way.

The Parks and Gardens Department will continue renewing the play equipment and sports-area apparatus in parks located in the districts of Sur, Kayapınar, Yenişehir and Bağlar.

Providing information about the works, landscape architect Necdet Kaygısız said they are continuing efforts both in newly built parks and in existing parks so that citizens can spend time in a more comfortable and safer environment.

Works are being carried out with disabled users in mind

Emphasising that accessibility is being prioritised on walking paths, seating areas and play areas, Kaygısız said: “We particularly plan to install inclusive and accessible play equipment in children’s play areas. By creating sensory park zones that can be used easily by persons with disabilities, we aim to ensure that everyone can spend time in nature. By improving surfaces, we are ensuring easy access to every part of the park, with step-free routes rather than stairs or high steps. Within the park, we are renewing furnishings such as benches, litter bins and gazebos to enhance user comfort.”
