Women’s Ancient Knowledge of Nature to be Revived Through a Workshop

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality aims to revive women’s ancient bond with nature through a free Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Cultivation Workshop.

The Department of Women and Family Services is launching the workshop to remind women of their long-standing connection with nature. The workshop, to be held free of charge at the Quça Women’s Life Centre in Kayapınar district, will accept registrations between 12–22 September at the Quça, Ben û Sen, Lalebey, Koşuyolu and Yeniköy Women’s Life Centres, as well as at the Women’s Studies Research and Application Centre (DİKASUM). Curiosity and willingness to learn will be sufficient for participation.

Training on the Effective Use of Plants

The workshop will highlight women’s historical roles as healers, wise figures and pioneers, while sharing knowledge on the safe and effective use of medicinal and aromatic plants. The benefits of plants will be discussed in relation to common conditions in women’s lives such as menstrual cycles, menopause, stress and insomnia.

Aiming not only to be a hobby activity but also a scientific, political and transformative platform for exchange, the workshop will include practical sessions such as making vinegar, creams, pastes, teas and oils from plants.

The workshop will be held twice a week over the course of two months. The sessions will cover the following topics: “Medicinal Plants”, “Plants Benefiting from Flowers”, “Ways of Using Plants” and “Plant Cultivation”.

The Department of Women and Family Services called on women to join the workshop with the invitation: “Let us explore the knowledge of healing plants together.”
