The new term is beginning for language courses opened in Diyarbakır with the aim of protecting and developing mother tongues. For the autumn term, the Metropolitan Municipality has included Kurdish dialects Kurmanji, Kirmancki and Sorani, as well as Armenian and Syriac.
The courses, organised in three-month periods, will be aimed at adults aged 16 and above. Each class will be limited to 25 participants, with an additional 5 accepted as reserve.
In addition, special literacy workshops in the Kurmanji dialect will be organised for those who can speak Kurdish but cannot read or write it.
