Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality hosted the 40th meeting of the Vate Working Group, which has been working for 29 years on the standardisation of Kirmanckî (Zazakî).

Held at İskenderpaşa Mansion under the auspices of the Department of Culture and Social Affairs, Language Preservation Branch Directorate, the meeting will focus on discussing Kirmanckî terminology in municipalities within the framework of multilingual municipal policies.

Academics, writers and educators from a wide geography where Kirmanckî is spoken — including Dersim, Dicle, Siverek, Bingöl, Varto, Palu, Lice, Kulp, Hani, Çermik, Kangal and Eğil — participated in the meeting.

As part of the multilingual municipal policy, 23 invited participants are contributing to the creation of Zazakî terminology by representing regional dialects and working towards the development of a common written language for Zazakî.

Providing information on the subject, Tahir Baykuşak, Head of the Unit for Language Preservation and Development, recalled that part of the Zazakî terminology meetings are held online, with face-to-face meetings convened twice a year. He added that, for the Kurmanji section, meetings are held every Thursday, noting that terminology is developed through consensus on debated concepts and that these meetings will continue.
