Organised in cooperation with Kayapınar Municipality and the Middle East Cinema Academy Association (OSAD), the 9th FilmAmed Documentary Film Festival has come to a close. The award ceremony, held at the Çand Amed Cultural and Convention Centre, was attended by Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak, co-mayors of district municipalities, representatives of political parties and civil society organisations, documentary filmmakers, and residents.

Co-Mayor Bucak Presents Award

Speaking at the ceremony, Co-Mayor Serra Bucak thanked everyone who contributed to the festival. Presenting the award themed “Ecology: From Roots to the Future – Hevsel Gardens” on behalf of the jury, Co-Mayor Bucak made the following remarks about the award-winning documentary Habibullah:

“Through a few real-life images, the portrait of a Kurdish musician is portrayed. His voice becomes a space of greater conflict between human freedom and religious control, between tradition and the present. Instead of commentary, the director relies directly on vision, body, and sound, allowing the stran to transform into a natural element — like the sound of wind, water, or birds.

This stran is not merely a primal expression but also emerges from the surrounding nature, affirming itself as a natural right. At the same time, it represents a profound cultural continuity. Stran and music, as fundamental elements of Kurdish culture, carry the weight of history, society, and resistance, forming a deeply rooted tradition.

This work reveals the power of music and poetry — showing that as a form of resistance and a right to live, even in a gentle form, a single musician can shake an entire system from its roots. For this poetic clarity, emotional depth, and political significance, we present this award to the film Habibullah.”

Following her speech, Co-Mayor Bucak presented the award to the documentary’s director, Adnan Zandi.
