Disability Awareness Week Celebrated with Events in Diyarbakır

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality celebrated Disability Week (10–16 May) with a series of events.

 The Department of Social Services enriches the lives of persons with disabilities not only through courses designed to enhance their participation in social life but also by organising various activities.

People with disabilities not forgotten

On the occasion of Disability Week, the Department organised a picnic at the Yenişehir Nursery Area. The event, organised by the Adult Social Care Department, was attended by Özgür Yıldız, Deputy Chief Executive of the Metropolitan Municipality, disabled individuals and their families who are receiving training at the course centres, representatives of non-governmental organisations working in the field of disability, and representatives of the relevant units from the municipalities of Kayapınar, Yenişehir and Bağlar.

People with disabilities showcased their talents

At the event, where students from the Sümer Park Disability Support Centre performed folk dances, a folk music choir made up of people with disabilities and a choir of students from the active living centre performed their pieces.

People with disabilities and their families enjoyed the programme, which included folk dances accompanied by music.
