Health screening service for women from DBB

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality organised a training programme to raise awareness of breast and cervical cancers.

Through health education programmes organised in neighbourhoods, the Health Administrative Affairs Branch Directorate under the Department of Health is informing women about breast and cervical cancers.

Women informed about cancer

As part of cancer awareness activities carried out by the Health Centre under the Health Administrative Affairs Directorate of the Department of Health, women in Özerkli neighbourhood of Sur district were given information on breast cancer and cervical cancer. In the hall where the presentation was made with visual materials, women were informed about the symptoms, risk factors, diagnosis and treatment methods of breast and cervical cancer.

Early diagnosis saves lives

In the programme, it was emphasised that women can perform self-examinations every month and that early diagnosis in breast cancer leads to more successful treatment. It was noted that breast and cervical cancers can be diagnosed at earlier stages through screening tests, while women were informed about how smear tests and mammography are carried out.

Women received health screenings

As part of the programme, 100 women underwent health screenings, 20 women received breast examinations, and 4 patients who could not come to the hall due to health problems were provided with home health services—bringing the total number of women served to 124.

In the programme, where psychological support was also provided for women, the teams did not forget the children. Playing games with them, they also informed the children about dental and hand hygiene. Afterwards, cakes and fruit juice were offered to the women and children participating in the training.
