A group of women from the Association of Migrant Women visited the Department of Women and Family Services of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality.
The Presidents of the Association of Migrant Women, Esma Çakır Ceylan and Ayten Kaya, who migrated from Turkey to Germany and have been actively engaged in women’s work in Germany for many years, together with members of the association, paid a solidarity visit to the Department of Women and Family Services. The women were welcomed by Deputy Chief Executive of the Metropolitan Municipality Zerin Türk, Head of the Department of Women and Family Services Özden Gürbüz Sümer, Municipal Council Members Gülay Kılıç and Demet Ceylan, Head of DİKASUM Unit Eylem Karaaslan and unit supervisors.
Speaking during the visit, the women from the Association of Migrant Women stated that they came to Diyarbakır to learn about the experiences of women in the region in their struggle for equality, to build networks and to foster solidarity.
Head of the Department of Women and Family Services, Özden Gürbüz Sümer, in turn, provided information about the work carried out and ongoing initiatives for women, as well as the functioning of the women’s shelter.
During the visit, which conveyed messages of solidarity, it was expressed that contacts for joint work should continue.
In addition, the women delivered emergency supplies they had brought for women and children staying at the shelter to the Department of Women and Family Services as a gesture of solidarity.
