Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality City Theatre (DBŞT) opened its October season with the play Mirina Jeanne d’Arcê Ya Din / Jeanne d’Arc’s Other Death.
Operating under the Department of Culture and Social Affairs, DBŞT began its series of free October performances with Mirina Jeanne d’Arcê Ya Din (Jeanne d’Arc’s Other Death).
Written by playwright Stefan Tsanev and translated into Kurdish by Dilawer Zeraq, the play was performed by DBŞT actors at the Çand Amed Cultural and Convention Centre. Directed by Berfin Emektar, the production features performances by Nurşen Adıgüzel, Yavuz Akkuzu, and Özcan Ateş.
Inspired by the legend of Jeanne d’Arc, the play explores how human beings and individuals are besieged by dominant ideologies such as religion and nationalism, while also drawing parallels to today’s ruling powers. Blending elements of comedy, the play concludes with Jeanne d’Arc’s symbolic triumph over human frailty and oppressive ideologies. The performances will continue on 4, 11, and 12 October.
Other Performances
On 17, 18, and 31 October, DBŞT’s women ensemble will continue performing the physical theatre piece Jîn (Jinên Azad), which premiered on 1 September.
The children’s play Hişê min Tev Li Hev Bû (I Got Confused) will be performed for young audiences on 19 October.
