Co-Mayor Bucak: Women’s organised struggle will be decisive in building a free society

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak, who attended the rally held at İstasyon Square for International Working Women’s Day on 8 March, said that women’s organised struggle will be decisive in building a free and peaceful society.

A rally was held at Diyarbakır’s İstasyon Square as part of International Working Women’s Day on 8 March, organised by Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA) and the Dicle Amed Women’s Platform (DAKP). Women arriving from different parts of the city gathered in the square to celebrate 8 March.

Among those attending the rally were Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar, women MPs, DBB Council Co-Spokesperson Demet Ceylan, co-mayors of district municipalities, representatives of women’s organisations, and many other women. Participants gathered in the square with slogans and banners.

Co-Mayor Serra Bucak also joined the march with women walking in procession, meeting them in front of AZC Plaza in the Ofis district of Yenişehir. The procession then set off from there and walked to İstasyon Square, where the rally was held.

The presence of women in traditional dress brought vibrant colour to the rally ground, as women celebrated International Working Women’s Day in a spirit of solidarity and joy.

Co-Mayor Bucak: Women are fighting for their rights

Addressing the rally, Co-Mayor Bucak greeted participants and stressed that women across the world are fighting for their rights and for their very existence. Drawing attention to the resistance of women in the region, she said that women’s organised struggle will be decisive in building a free and peaceful society.

‘Let us organise everywhere’

Drawing attention to women’s determination and struggle, Co-Mayor Bucak said that women must organise in every sphere of life. She said: “Let women organise themselves towards a new life, a life bound together in solidarity. That organisation was in Amed today, in Batman yesterday, and tomorrow it will be present in every sphere and at every stage of life. This collective organisation will lead us and guide us. Now we say: this is women’s time. In the city, in the street, in the village — everywhere — let us as women organise. This is women’s time; this is the time for peace. We must understand this peace process well, lend it strong support, and take the lead in it. I send my greetings and love to the mothers, and I wish 8 March to be a celebration for all of us — for Kurdish women, and for all women from Amed to Rojava and Rojhilat. Long live women’s unity, long live women’s freedom: Jin, Jiyan, Azadî!”
