Story Chest launched, books being collected for children

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality has launched the “Story Chest” project to help bring children together with books. Storybooks collected as part of the project will be delivered to children living in the central districts and rural neighbourhoods.

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality has introduced a new project to support children’s access to books and strengthen reading habits. Through the “Story Chest” project, carried out by the Press, Publication and Public Relations Department, the municipality aims to deliver storybooks to children.

Under the project, storybooks will be gifted to pupils and children in order to introduce them to cultural values, encourage reading habits and contribute to their social development. To this end, chests placed at designated points across the city are expected to enable residents to contribute to the project.

Chests placed at three locations across the city

As part of the project, “Story Chests” have been placed in front of the Metropolitan Municipality service building, at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre, and at the Sümerpark Common Living Centre. The storybooks left at these locations will be collected and delivered to children in need.

The books collected are planned to be distributed not only across the central districts but also to children living in rural neighbourhoods. In this way, the project seeks to connect more children with books and promote a wider culture of reading.

Books to be delivered to children

The process of collecting and distributing the storybooks will be coordinated by the Press, Publication and Public Relations Department. With the contribution of residents, the municipality aims to ensure that the books gathered through the project reach children in need and help more children encounter the world of books.
