Konstantina Kostova, Political Advisor to the EU Delegation to Turkey, and her accompanying delegation visited Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayors Serra Bucak and Doğan Hatun to exchange views on local government and cooperation processes.

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayors Serra Bucak and Doğan Hatun hosted Konstantina Kostova, Political Affairs Counsellor at the EU Delegation to Türkiye, and the accompanying delegation.

Co-Mayor Serra Bucak noted that they had been going through an intense period due to the Newroz programme and underlined the significance of the visit.

Advisor Konstantina Kostova said it was her first visit to Diyarbakır and added: “Thank you for receiving us. You hosted a delegation from the European Union here last year. I wanted to return with another delegation and congratulate you on your achievements. The election of 11 women mayors is an important development. We also congratulate you on the campaigns you have carried out to combat violence against women, and we are proud of you.”

Referring to the purpose of the visit, Kostova said the European Commission closely follows cooperation processes with local authorities in candidate countries, adding that, as part of the programme, they had also held meetings with civil society organisations, representatives of the business community and journalists.

The meeting also addressed cooperation in the field of local government.
