Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Council has unanimously approved the purchase of two accessible vehicles in order to make it easier for cancer patients and residents with physical disabilities to reach hospitals.
An important decision was taken at the regular April meeting of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Council, following a request from the Department of Disability and Elderly Services. Under the proposal discussed by the Council, consideration was given to how the “Social Taxi” service for cancer patients and hospital transport for residents with physical disabilities could be maintained more effectively.
The decision stated that, in order to ensure the continuity of the existing service, improve service quality and increase accessibility, there was a need for two accessible vehicles with lift systems, each with a capacity of at least three passengers, powered by electricity, hybrid technology or fossil fuel.
Following the reading of the relevant written submission from the Department of Disability and Elderly Services, the matter was discussed by council members. After the evaluations, the proposed purchase of the two vehicles was put to a vote.
Decision approved unanimously
As a result of the vote conducted in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Municipal Council Rules of Procedure, the request was approved unanimously.
With the decision, the aim is to provide stronger support for disabled people and cancer patients in accessing healthcare services.
