The Amed Theatre Festival, organised with the support of the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, will begin on 18 April. The Department of Culture and Social Affairs continues to bring the people of Diyarbakır together with cultural and artistic events. The Metropolitan Municipality will bring the 9th Amed Theatre Festival to art lovers this year. Held under the motto “Bi hebûna xwe, bi xwebûna xwe” (With Your Existence, With Your Identity), the festival will run from 18 to 27 April.
The opening ceremony will take place at Diyarbakır İskenderpaşa Mansion, and the festival will host not only local theatre groups but also ensembles from Urmia and Saqqez in Iran, as well as Kirkuk and Duhok in Iraq. In addition to stage performances, the programme will feature a series of talks and discussions dedicated to theatre.
Plays to Be Staged
The festival will open with plays by the Yeni Sahne and Şermola theatre groups, with five plays in Turkish and fourteen in Kurdish.
Throughout the festival, Buka Lekî (Şermola Performans), Afet İle Diana (BGST), Salma (Koma Hawar), Derwêş yan Gudû (Duhok), Efsaneya Hespên Azad (Urmiye), Kabil û Habîl (Koma Ritiûel), Odip ( Koma Ronya –Seqiz), Kral û Travîs (ŞanoAr), Çînur (Teatra Ba), Zîd û Han (Dubare Kumpanya), Mirina Jeanne D’arce ya din (Şanoya Bajarê Amed), Ceyran (Teatroger), Strip-Tease (Dimilki- Şanoya Bajarê Amed), Kalabalık Tiyatrosu (Physical Theatre Research), Bernarda (Theatre Project No. 2), İnfaz (Şaneşin Performance), Otopsi (Shadow Theatre Group), Gomidas (Yolcu Theatre) and Rîuelîstîk Playroots will meet the audience.
Theatre actors will perform at the Çand Amed Cultural Centre (Sezai Karakoç KKM), Amed City Theatre and historical venues across the city.
