DBB introduces the JINKART scheme in public transport

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality is launching the JINKART scheme on municipal buses to enable women without any income to participate in social life. Each JINKART (Women’s Card) provided to women will include 90 free rides per month.

The Women's Department of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality has taken an important step to make the daily lives of women without social security easier.The JINKART scheme is being introduced to ensure women’s participation in social life, to facilitate their daily tasks, and to improve their access to cultural and artistic activities.

90 free rides per month

Work has begun on the scheme, which will be placed on the agenda at the municipal council meeting to be held in the second week of July. The application requirements will be announced after the council decision. Women who meet the eligibility requirements will be able to apply to the centres designated by the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality.

According to the prepared plan, women without any income will be entitled to 90 free journeys per month on municipal buses.

Gürbüz Sümer: Women experience poverty more deeply

Providing information about the scheme, Head of the Department of Women’s Policies, Özden Gürbüz Sümer, stated that poverty and unemployment are the most significant problems of the city, emphasising that women experience poverty more deeply. Gürbüz drew attention to the fact that a large proportion of women living in the city face major problems in accessing basic needs, from health to education and participation in social life, due to economic hardship.

20% discount on cultural activities with JINKART

Gürbüz noted that JINKART is not designed solely for use on public transportation, and explained that women who hold this card can benefit from a 20% discount at municipal social facilities and cultural events to enable them to participate in social and cultural activities.
