Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak met with women in the Şehitlik neighbourhood, stating that they are ready to provide all kinds of legal support for women.

The Department of Women and Family Services continues its neighbourhood meetings to enable women to directly share their problems, needs, and demands. Within this framework, a women’s gathering was held in Şehitlik neighbourhood of Yenişehir district with the participation of Co-Mayor Serra Bucak, municipal council members, Head of the Department of Women and Family Services Özden Gürbüz Sümer, and staff from DİKASUM. The gathering drew great interest from local women.

At the meeting, DİKASUM staff provided information about the institution’s activities and explained how women could reach out to them.

Co-Mayor Bucak: You embraced it strongly and showed patience

In her speech, Co-Mayor Serra Bucak greeted all women and emphasised that discussing the problems they face is very valuable and important. Drawing attention to shared challenges, Co-Mayor Bucak said:

“There are many issues concerning our neighbourhoods and our streets. For example, as we entered the neighbourhood where this meeting is being held, people thanked us for the newly asphalted road. In fact, it is we who should thank you. After eight years of trusteeship, you have embraced things more strongly and have shown patience for more than a year.”

‘We are here to ask what we can do’

Calling on women to contact the municipality not only about neighbourhood problems but also about family issues and gender-based problems, Co-Mayor Bucak continued:

“As the Metropolitan and district municipalities, we are ready to provide women with all kinds of legal support. We are here to ask what we can do and what we can discuss together. Thank you all for being here today and for giving us your time.”

Women attending the meeting shared their demands, including resolving the rubbish problem, the need for a local marketplace, increasing the number of minibuses, addressing the lack of green spaces, and creating more spaces for children.

Co-Mayor Bucak assured them that the municipality would follow up on these issues.
