Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayors Serra Bucak and Doğan Hatun attended a press statement held in the Ofis neighbourhood of Yenişehir district to mark the anniversary of the Roboski massacre.
The statement was organised by the Amed Labour and Democracy Platform to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the killing of 34 people—19 of them children—on 28 December 2011 in Roboski village (Uludere district, Şırnak). The event took place in front of AZC Plaza in Yenişehir and was attended by the Co-Mayors, along with representatives of political parties and civil society organisations.
During the statement, attention was drawn to the policy of impunity maintained since the date of the killings. Speakers called for the Roboski massacre to be fully clarified in all its aspects and for those responsible to be brought to trial.
Following the statement, Co-Mayors Serra Bucak and Doğan Hatun, together with others, marched from Yaşar Kemal (Ekinciler) Street to Stad Park. Throughout the march, members of the public were invited to attend the “Hope and Freedom” rally to be held on 4 January at İstasyon Square.
