Within the scope of the Erasmus programme, a delegation from four countries visited Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayors Serra Bucak and Doğan Hatun, posing questions about community-oriented municipal governance and the co-mayoral system.
A 27-member Erasmus delegation from Portugal, Italy, Catalonia (Spain) and Latvia met the Co-Mayors as part of an exchange programme run by the Youth and Exchange Association.
Welcoming the young visitors, the Co-Mayors answered questions on the co-mayoral system, their governance approach, the election manifesto of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), and on the work carried out within the framework of a democratic, women’s freedom-oriented paradigm.
Emphasising the importance of young people’s participation in international, solidarity- and equality-based initiatives, the Co-Mayors expressed Diyarbakır’s satisfaction in hosting such projects.
The delegation is holding a range of activities in Diyarbakır as part of an eight-day programme on gender. Under the programme, participants from each country share the state of gender equality in their own contexts, the challenges encountered, and proposed solutions.
