Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak took part in a public statement held in front of DİKASUM (Diyarbakır Women’s Issues Research and Application Centre) to mark the 25 November International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women at the Sümerpark Community Hub.
Gathering under the slogan “Living free from violence in a democratic society,” women’s organisations were joined by Co-Mayor Serra Bucak, DBB Council Co-Spokesperson Demet Ceylan, district co-mayors, DBB Deputy Chief Executive Zerin Türk, the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Diyarbakır Provincial Co-Chair Gülşen Özer, and women representatives from political parties and civil society organisations.
The statement underlined that women face systematic violence spanning a wide spectrum from domestic abuse to impunity, noting: “Our voices and words have grown over the years against poverty, harassment, rape, violence and massacres. We have walked while carrying our social values close to our hearts. The women’s struggle will continue to grow until a world without violence, exploitation and inequality is built.”
