Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayors Serra Bucak and Doğan Hatun took part in a commemoration held at Dağkapı Square on the anniversary of the execution of Seyit Rıza.

The commemoration at Dağkapı Square was organised by the Pir Sultan Abdal Culture Association and the Democratic Institutions Platform. In addition to the Co-Mayors of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, the event was attended by co-mayors of district municipalities, representatives of democratic mass organisations, DEM Party Diyarbakır MP Serhat Eren, DEM Party Diyarbakır Provincial Co-Chair Gülşen Özer, Abbas Şahin and a large number of residents.

In the statement made under the slogan “We did not bow down; with our heads held high we walk towards freedom”, it was emphasised that the execution of Seyit Rıza left deep marks on society’s collective memory. The statement underlined that the commemoration “is not about recalling the pain of the past alone, but about embracing today’s ongoing quest for freedom and peace”.

At the end of the statement, participants called for the truth to be brought to light and for an honest reckoning with the past.
