Public transport route to Zerzevan Castle

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality is introducing a new bus service to the historic Zerzevan Castle.

The Department of Transport continues to revise public transport routes in order to meet residents’ mobility needs and to support the tourism potential of the region. In this context, Zerzevan Castle has been added to the route of the ÇM-coded line operating between the Eastern District Coach Station and Meydanköy neighbourhood.

With the new arrangement, which will come into effect on Monday 17 November, ÇM-coded buses will operate between the Eastern District Coach Station and Meydanköy, serving the following route: Eastern District Coach Station, Mehmet Akif Ersoy Boulevard, Sezai Karakoç Boulevard, New Mardin Road, Yeşilçınar Service Area, Çarıklı, Livestock Market, Diyarbakır Racecourse, Beşpınar, Çınar, Akçomak, Aşağı Konak, Demir Ölçek, Yaprakbaşı, Düz Ova, Zerzevan Castle and Meydanköy neighbourhoods. Services will run six days a week, except on Sundays.

Service times

Eastern District Coach Station: 07:00 – 14:00

Meydanköy: 08:15 – 15:15

Zerzevan Castle

Located near the district of Çınar in Diyarbakır, Zerzevan Castle is an important archaeological site which served as a military garrison during the Roman Empire and is noted for its strategic position. Within the castle complex there are city walls, towers, water cisterns and residential areas, as well as the internationally renowned Mithras Temple. Listed on UNESCO’s Tentative World Heritage List, Zerzevan Castle is one of the most visited historic sites in the region.
