Gender-focused workshop for women benefiting from DBB training courses

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality organised a gender-focused workshop at the Koşuyolu Women’s Life Centre for women who participated in the training programme on air conditioner, boiler and radiator maintenance, as well as furniture assembly and repair.

The Municipality continues to support its training programmes—designed to help women gain independence in daily life and empowerment in the professional sphere—with gender-focused activities.

Organised by the Department of Women and Family Services, the workshop was held at the Koşuyolu Women’s Life Centre for women enrolled in the training programme, which began on 1 July and covers air conditioner, boiler and radiator maintenance alongside furniture assembly and repair.

What is discrimination?

Necla Gün, a staff member of the Women’s Issues Research and Application Centre (DİKASUM), led the workshop, engaging participants in discussions on “What is discrimination, which situations can be defined as discrimination, gender-based inequalities, and the concept of gender.”

Information provided on legal steps

In the workshop, where women actively took part in the discussions, they shared and reflected on the forms of discrimination they had experienced based on their own personal experiences. The workshop also provided information on the institutions that can be approached in the face of threats or incidents of violence, what actions can be taken, and the legal steps available.

‘The workshop was productive’

At the end of the workshop, brochures were distributed containing details and contact information of the institutions to which women can turn in cases of violence.

Participants stated that the workshop had been productive for them and requested that similar sessions continue.
