As part of European Mobility Week, a cycling tour and walking events highlighted healthy living and environmentally friendly transport in Diyarbakır.
In cooperation with Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DTSO), EU Information Centres and Tigris Cycling and Nature Sports Club, a cycling tour was organised to raise awareness about healthy living and sustainable transport.
The event was held on Mezopotamya Boulevard in Kayapınar district. Speaking at the programme, Metropolitan Municipality Chief Executive Emrullah Gördük stated that Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality supports such events. Gördük said: “We, as the Metropolitan Municipality, support this event organised on the occasion of European Mobility Week in terms of visibility, encouragement and creating difference. We want such events to take place more frequently and more extensively. We thank all the institutions, organisations and participants who contributed to this event.”
The cycling tour, which started on Mezopotamya Boulevard, ended at the City Square. Throughout the event, citizens pedalled both for healthy living and to draw attention to the importance of environmentally friendly transport.
Events to Continue
As part of European Mobility Week activities, a “Nature Walk” will be held at Hevsel Gardens on Saturday, 20 September at 10:00. The walk will start in front of the Stone Mansion in the Fiskaya neighbourhood.
The events will conclude on Monday, 22 September with a walk organised for “Car-Free City Day”. The walk will begin at 09:00 in front of the Nebi Mosque on Gazi Avenue.
