1 October – International Day of Older Persons: Municipal Teams Provide Home Health Services and Distribute Blood Pressure Monitors

To mark the International Day of Older Persons (1 October), teams from Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality visited elderly residents in their homes, offering health services and providing blood pressure monitors.

The Department of Services for Persons with Disabilities and Older Adults continues its efforts to support elderly citizens who live alone and are unable to meet their daily needs independently. Within the scope of these efforts, the Municipality provides a range of services for residents aged 60 and over who live alone or require care — including health check-ups, personal care, household cleaning, and the provision of medical equipment.

Home Health Services

As part of the programme, municipal teams visited many elderly residents on the International Day of Older Persons and provided home health services. In addition, 60 residents received blood pressure monitors to help them better monitor their health. The teams also offered guidance on how to use the devices safely and effectively.

Blood Pressure Monitors Delivered to Elderly Residents

As part of the 1 October International Day of Older Persons activities, the Branch Directorate for Rare and Chronic Diseases and the Branch Directorate for Services for Older Adults visited residents in their homes, carrying out health screenings and providing blood pressure monitors to citizens aged 65 and over with hypertension.

Home health care staff working under the Directorate for Services for Older Adults conducted medical check-ups during home visits and delivered blood pressure monitors to elderly residents in need.

“We Will Distribute Blood Pressure Monitors to 60 People”

Providing information about the initiative, Sevda Erdem Ateş, Head of the Branch Directorate for Rare and Chronic Diseases, emphasised that they will continue to serve citizens living with rare and chronic illnesses. Ateş said:

“In cooperation with our Directorate for Services for Older Adults, we are visiting the homes of elderly citizens and will deliver blood pressure monitors to around 60 residents aged 65 and over who suffer from hypertension. During these visits, we first carry out health screenings in the residents’ homes.”

“They Come to Our Homes and Check On Us”

Expressing her satisfaction with the services, resident Yemlihan Öner said:

“We are pleased with our Municipality. They take good care of us and provide excellent service. They come to our homes and carry out our health checks.”
