Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Doğan Hatun met with the representatives of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Office and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Turkey. At the meeting, agricultural projects in the region were discussed and a decision was taken to work jointly on development goals.

Co-Mayor DoÄŸan Hatun held a series of meetings in Ankara. After meeting with the representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Turkey, Hatun went on to meet with the representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Office in Turkey and Mehmet Ãœvez, Deputy Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Turkey.

Cooperation in Agriculture and Rural Development

At the meeting with FAO, opportunities for cooperation in the field of agriculture and rural development were discussed, and areas for joint work on agricultural projects in the region were evaluated. FAO representatives stated that they could support projects aimed at strengthening the capacity of local producers and share expertise with the municipality in their fields of specialisation. They added that they would work together on project financing, noting that the meeting represented an important step towards strengthening cooperation and supporting sustainable agricultural development.

At the introductory and cooperation meeting with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), areas with potential for collaboration between the parties were assessed. The city’s potential in infrastructure, transport, energy efficiency and economic development was also discussed.

The Co-Mayor and his delegation shared Diyarbakır’s development goals and projects with EBRD officials, and a decision was taken to initiate technical work towards concrete steps.

Co-Mayor Hatun was accompanied on the visits by Özden Gürbüz Sümer, Head of the Department of Women and Family Services; Murat Akbaş, Head of the Department of Studies and Projects; and Adnan Aydın, Head of the Projects Department at the General Directorate of Diyarbakır Water and Sewerage Administration (DİSKİ).
