The Diyarbakır City Council Language Assembly convened its second ordinary meeting.
The City Council’s second Ordinary Meeting was held at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre. Alongside City Council members, the meeting was attended by members of the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Council, co-mayors of district municipalities, civil society organisations, and representatives of institutions working in the field of languages.
During the meeting, members of the Presidium delivered opening remarks. The programme underlined that the Language Assembly’s core aim is to safeguard and strengthen Diyarbakır’s long-established multilingual character and to ensure its visibility in public life. It was noted that the Assembly is a structure which recognises all languages in the city on an equal footing, safeguards cultural continuity, and develops policies aligned with local democratic mechanisms.
At the meeting, the Language Assembly’s action plan and its by-law were discussed, and participants also shared their views and suggestions regarding the Assembly’s work and planning.
