Women who completed Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality’s training programme in air-conditioning and combi-boiler (HVAC) servicing, as well as radiator maintenance and repair, were awarded certificates of participation. It was noted that women who benefited from the first two-month training programme have begun working professionally in the field, using the knowledge and skills they acquired.
The second round of the training programme—launched at Koşuyolu Women’s Life Centre to strengthen women’s capacity in technical fields and increase their visibility—has now concluded. The programme was delivered by the Department of Women’s Policies in cooperation with the Department of Support Services. A total of 13 women attended the two-month course.
Following completion of the programme, a ceremony was held at Koşuyolu Women’s Life Centre, where the trainees’ certificates were presented by their instructors.
‘The Women’s Life Centre Is Always Open’
Speaking at the ceremony, Leyla Eleftoz Baran, Coordinator of Koşuyolu Women’s Life Centre, emphasised that the centre is not limited to courses alone. “Today is the last day of our course, but that doesn’t mean you won’t come here again. This is a women’s life centre. Alongside courses, we also have different activities and training sessions. We would like to see you here again,” she said.
‘Our Main Aim Is to Expand These Workshops’
Sevda Kayar Görer from the Department of Women’s Policies said their aim is to ensure women can take part in every sphere of life and to broaden these spaces through solidarity. She said:
“Today, at Koşuyolu Women’s Life Centre, we presented certificates of participation to women who have been attending the air-conditioning and combi-boiler workshop for nearly two months. In July, 27 women took part in these workshops and received their certificates. Today, we have completed our second workshop with the participation of 13 women. We evaluated the process together, taking on board views and suggestions. Based on women’s feedback, we have started planning the next workshop. As the Department of Women’s Policies, our main aim is to scale up these workshops and further enrich their content in line with the responses we receive.”
‘There Are Women Now Doing This Professionally’
Noting that they received positive feedback from women after the first workshop, Görer underlined that the courses have produced tangible outcomes:
“One of the main reasons we delivered this workshop again was the feedback we received from women. There are women who are now working actively in the field, doing this work professionally and contributing to their household income through the skills they gained in these workshops. We collected feedback from women who attended both workshops and carried out evaluation surveys.”
