Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality delivered training for secondary school students on strengthening environmental awareness and improving understanding of waste management.
As part of the “Source Separation Project”, the Department of Climate Change and Zero Waste organised a training session at a private school in the Bağlar district, covering: environmental awareness, recycling, zero waste, the use of renewable energy sources, source separation, and climate change.
With the aim of instilling environmental protection awareness from an early age, the programme’s briefings were delivered by technical staff from the Department of Climate Change and Zero Waste.
During the approximately two-hour session, specialist staff shared information on what needs to be done for a sustainable future, as well as the roles of society and individuals in achieving zero waste.
Guidance on the responsible use of water resources
The programme also addressed the environmental harms of waste batteries and proper collection methods, alongside the environmental impacts of used cooking oils. Students were further briefed on: consuming less and consuming responsibly; the negative consequences climate change may bring; and the importance of using water resources correctly.
The importance of recycling bins highlighted
The zero-waste training also emphasised the importance of recycling bins placed in schools by the Metropolitan Municipality. The session concluded with a Q&A, where students’ questions were answered.
Training sessions will continue
The Department of Climate Change and Zero Waste, together with the Department of Environmental Protection and Control, will continue joint educational activities for students in schools in pursuit of a cleaner and more liveable city.
