DBÅžT Captivates Audiences with Shakespeare

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality City Theatre (DBŞT) brought William Shakespeare’s acclaimed A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the stage in a Kurdish adaptation, titled Xewna Şeveke Havînê. At the premiere at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre, the performance received a standing ovation, offering theatre-goers an unforgettable evening.

Shakespeare’s romantic comedy—often described as a fairy tale for adults—was staged in Kurdish by DBŞT performers at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre. Presented under the title Xewna Şeveke Havînê in Kawa Nemir’s translation, the production delighted art lovers who filled the hall.

The premiere was attended by DBB Deputy Secretary General Muhabbet ErdoÄŸmuÅŸ, department heads, and many theatre enthusiasts. Throughout the performance, the auditorium repeatedly echoed with applause and laughter.

Directed by Ferhad Feqî, the cast included Berfin Emektar, Halit Aslan, Mesut Erenci, Nurşen Adıgüzel, Nazmi Karaman, Özcan Ateş, Ömer Akkan, Perînaz Delazy, Sena Özbey, Sakîna Aktaş, Şahperî Alphan, Şehabettin Dağ, Yavuz Akkuzu and Zeycan Ateş.

At the end of the show, Deputy Secretary General Muhabbet ErdoÄŸmuÅŸ presented the cast with flowers and congratulated them on their performance.

Set in a forest, the play tells the story of people rendered foolish amid the gods’ struggle for power, unfolding around themes of love, magic and illusion. As the charms return to their rightful place, the lovers are correctly paired, and all the strangeness caused by enchantment is ultimately covered over by a dream.

Xewna Şeveke Havînê will continue to meet audiences at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre at 20:30 on Saturday, 28 February.
