Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayors Serra Bucak and Doğan Hatun met with Tanguy Denieul and Marine Karcher, Directors of the French Development Agency (AFD) in Turkey, and agreed to establish a joint technical working group for the Light Rail System Project.

Continuing their contacts in Istanbul, Co-Mayors Bucak and Hatun met with Tanguy Denieul and Marine Karcher of AFD following their meeting with Nevgül Bilsel Safkan, General Manager of the Sabancı Foundation.

Light Rail System Project

The discussions focused on the financing and technical details of the Diyarbakır Light Rail System Project. Taking place in a positive atmosphere, the meeting emphasised the strong will for cooperation to ensure the project is implemented swiftly.

Joint Technical Working Group to Be Established

It was agreed to establish a joint technical working group to examine the project’s technical and financial details in depth. The working group is expected to begin its activities shortly, contributing to the progress of this significant project which will strengthen Diyarbakır’s public transport infrastructure.

The meeting also underlined the contribution the project would make to Diyarbakır’s sustainable transport goals and to regional development.

The Co-Mayors were accompanied at the meeting by Özden Gürbüz Sümer, Head of the Department of Women and Family Services; Serap Yıldırım, Head of the Department of Social Services; and Murat Akbaş, Head of the Department of Studies and Projects.
