Ahead of 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality carried out outreach activities across the city to make support mechanisms more visible and to reach large numbers of women. The outreach included comprehensive information on all available routes of support that women can access in the face of violence.
The Department of Women and Family Services continues its work under the 25 November programme to strengthen women’s access to support mechanisms.
Leaflets distributed during field outreach
Field activities were conducted at several locations in Bağlar district—including the Health Centre Market area, the neighbourhood market on Hatboyu Street, and Oğlaklı neighbourhood—to underline that violence in any form is unacceptable and to increase the visibility of support services women can turn to when needed. The outreach in Oğlaklı was carried out jointly with the Bağlar Municipality Women’s Unit, reaching many women. Informational leaflets were distributed and, through face-to-face engagement, women were informed about the steps to take and the application routes available in cases of violence.
Visibility campaign for the Alo Violence Hotline
To increase awareness of the 444 36 21 Alo Violence Hotline, which women can contact in emergencies, warning stickers were placed across the city—particularly at bus stops and in other high-visibility locations. The work will continue in these neighbourhoods to ensure wider access to information.
Information stands to run for three days
As part of joint work with the municipalities of Sur, Yenişehir, Bağlar and Kayapınar, information stands were set up on Gazi Street, at Ceylan Shopping Centre, Ninova Shopping Centre and Sanat Street. Over three days, the stands will provide women directly with information on all support mechanisms that can be used in efforts to combat violence against women.
