Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality is organising the Amed Cleaning Campaign on 5 June, World Environment Day. Various events will be held as part of the multilingual campaign. The Metropolitan Municipality is holding the Amed Cleaning Campaign on the occasion of 5 June, World Environment Day, to draw attention to environmental cleanliness and raise awareness. Coordinated by the Department of Environmental Protection and Control, and carried out together with the central district municipalities, the campaign will begin at 10:00 on Wednesday, 5 June, at Dağkapı Square.
T-shirts, caps and leaflets will be distributed.
Co-Mayors of Sur, Yenişehir, Bağlar and Kayapınar Municipalities, municipal council members, executive committee members, the Secretary-General of the Metropolitan Municipality and deputy secretaries-general, as well as relevant heads of departments and directors will come together with citizens at the event. Participants will also distribute T-shirts, caps, leaflets and posters regarding waste disposal times prepared for the campaign.
Target audience: students
Within the scope of the programme, similar events will be held in Bağlar district on Hatboyu Street at 13:00, and in Kayapınar district at Rojava Park at 15:00.
Primary and secondary school students have been designated as the target audience of the campaign, which will also receive support from university students, non-governmental organisations, neighbourhood headmen, religious leaders and associations.
‘I love Amed, I do not pollute it’
The campaign will use the slogans prepared in Turkish and Kurdish (Kurmanji–Zazaki): “I love Amed, I do not pollute it – Ez ji Amedê hez dikim qirej nakim – Ez Amedê ra hes kena leymin nêkena.”
A promotional film has been prepared
As part of the campaign, a promotional film featuring names from different segments of the city has also been produced. The film includes broadcasters, writers, musicians, activists, dengbêj singers, peace mothers, religious figures and representatives of non-governmental organisations, as well as members of the city’s ancient faith communities, the Chaldean, Armenian and Syriac communities. In this way, the city’s multilingual and multicultural character has been reflected. The film will be shared on the Metropolitan Municipality’s website, LED screens and social media platforms.
