At the fifth Amed Peace Meetings, held under the leadership of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, representatives of different religions and faiths will discuss the role of belief communities in building peace.

The Amed Peace Meetings, organised by Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, continue. The fifth meeting in the series—where various dimensions of social peace have previously been addressed under different themes—will be held under the title “Religions and Beliefs in Peacebuilding”.

The programme will take place on Sunday, 22 February, between 15.00 and 17.00 at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre. Representatives of different faith communities will come together to share their approaches to the concept of peace and to assess how beliefs can contribute to weaving social peace.

Faith representatives to speak

Speakers at the programme will include Dilan Aydın from the Democratic Islam Congress, Fethiye Yıldırım from the Democratic Alevi Associations, Hikmet Yüksel from the Êzidî community, and Ender Peker from the Armenian Protestant Church.

The meeting will address shared perspectives on peace across religious and belief systems, moral values, and their contributions to a culture of coexistence. The event will be open to public participation.

A broader perspective on building social peace

The Amed Peace Meetings are planned as a series of events aiming to strengthen social dialogue and a culture of coexistence in Diyarbakır. Previous meetings opened up discussion on the social, cultural and political dimensions of peace, bringing together academics, civil society representatives and local residents.

The fifth meeting will focus specifically on the role of faiths in peacebuilding, and will consider possibilities for different identities and senses of belonging to come together around shared values.
