The fifth session of the Amed Peace Meetings, organised by Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, was held under the title “Religions and Beliefs in the Construction of Peace.”
The Amed Peace Meetings, launched by the Metropolitan Municipality with the aim of addressing peace in all its dimensions and building a shared future, are continuing. The meetings, which examine the social, political and psychological dimensions of peace, are continuing as a comprehensive project aimed at bringing together different peoples, beliefs and cultures. In this context, the fifth session of the Peace Meetings was held under the title “Religions and Beliefs in the Construction of Peace.”
The session, held at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre, was moderated by Mehmet Emin Ay, Permanent Council Member of the Metropolitan Municipality. During the session, representatives of different faith communities came together to discuss their approaches to the concept of peace and to assess the role of beliefs in the construction of social peace.
The contribution of beliefs to peace was discussed
At the meeting, the role of religions and belief systems in building peace was discussed in depth. Participants stressed that, in order for peace to be established in a lasting way, everyone in society must see themselves as part of this process. It was also emphasised that beliefs offer a strong framework for producing meaning and developing practices of living together.
Representatives of different faiths took the floor
The speakers at the meeting were Dilan Aydın from the Democratic Islam Congress, Fethiye Yıldırım from the Democratic Alevi Associations, Hikmet Yüksel representing the Êzidî community, and Ender Peker from the Mardin Protestant Church. The speakers addressed the concept of peace from the perspective of their own faith traditions and shared the moral values their beliefs offer for weaving social peace and their contributions to a culture of coexistence.
