Women are gaining vocational skills through the skincare and hairdressing courses opened by Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, strengthening their prospects for employment while receiving training with the aim of achieving economic independence and setting up their own businesses.
Through the skincare and hairdressing courses opened by the Social Services Department under Diyarbakır Art and Vocational Training Courses (DİSMEK), women are preparing for professional life with the goal of achieving economic independence and establishing their own businesses.
Employment as the goal
The courses offered by the Vocational Training Branch Directorate in various fields, with the aim of contributing to employment and helping participants gain new skills and hobbies, attract strong interest, particularly from women. In the training sessions held at Göletli Park Training Centre, women aim either to open their own businesses or to work professionally in the sector.
The courses, delivered by expert trainers, are both practical and comprehensive. For this reason, quotas are kept limited in order to ensure higher-quality training. In the programme, which continues every weekday, skincare training is provided for half a day, while hairdressing training is delivered as a full-day course. Trainees graduate and receive their certificates after an intensive 60-day training period.
48 women attend the courses
As part of the training programme, 28 women enrolled in the hairdressing course continue their training four days a week, while 20 trainees in the skincare branch receive theoretical and practical training every weekday.
‘We teach trainees professional techniques’
Providing information about the courses, hairdressing trainer Seher Yıldız said that during the two-month hairdressing course, trainees are taught hair styling, colouring, blow-drying and cutting techniques, adding that women generally apply to the course with the aim of finding employment.
‘We provide free services during practical training’
Noting that hairdressing training is delivered in two stages, Yıldız said that after the theoretical training, services are provided free of charge as part of the practical training.
‘My ambition is to open my own salon’
Trainee Buket Çelik said she had applied to the course in order to take part in economic life, stating: “We are learning procedures such as cutting, blow-drying and colouring professionally. I started as a hobby, but as I learned more, I decided to turn this into a professional career. I want to open my own hair salon in the future.”
‘Many of our trainees have graduated and entered working life’
Skincare trainer Serfiraz Bozarslan stressed that the courses offer an important opportunity for women, noting that women who attend the courses first learn a profession and then aim to open their own businesses. Bozarslan said the training lasts approximately two to three months, adding that many trainees have graduated so far and some have entered working life.
My goal is to open my own beauty salon
Trainee İrem Su Çolak, who has been attending the course for two months, said: “Here, we both learn a profession and build new friendships. We learn a great deal from one another. My goal is to start working at a corporate company and then take my career further by opening my own workplace.”
